This is a Washington Syrah with aromas that jump out of the bottle. Big fruit aromas mixed with toasted barrel notes, making for a pleasant nose. Big flavors reminiscent of cherry jam are bold and lingering. The finish is like velvet, silky and smooth on the palate. The slight woody notes help this wine pair well with BBQ.
Coyote Canyon Vineyard – Horse Heaven Hills AVA
The 2012 vintage was one of the largest crops in Washington State and of extraordinary high quality. A mild winter and cooler spring paved the way for recovery from the lighter 2010 and 2011 seasons. Warmer days and cool nights throughout the September and October ripening moths created exceptional color development resulting in well-balanced acidity and structure. Harvest ran early October through the third week of October.
The Buck is named after one of the bulls that used to roam the Coyote Canyon Vineyard before it was a vineyard. I find that Syrah can be a tricky wine to make and can change directions pretty quickly. I enjoy the finish of this wine and think that Syrah can be a great addition to some of our other blends because of its great color, fruit forwardness and silky finish. It has a lot of the components I enjoy finding in a Syrah and I hope that you agree.
