Description
Tasting Notes
Ripe berry notes and Oak tones are noticeable aromas showing in this wine. Some light toasty elements are also there. The wine starts off with chocolate and Bing cherries before finishing with a nice velvet feel. The wine is full bodied with a bit of spice on the finish.
Vineyard
Coyote Canyon Vineyard – Horse Heaven Hills AVA
Vintage
2014 was a hot vintage in Eastern Washington. Coyote Canyon vineyard had an early spring that led to early bud break. The Summer was hot but consistent, the temperature didn’t get into the triple digits often and grapes were able to ripen at a nice pace. When Fall arrived, the white wines were picked early but a cooling trend allowed most of the reds extra hang time to fully develop their flavors. All our grapes are handpicked and fermented separately so each varietal gets a chance to shine. After fermentation, the wine is aged in oak barrels for 18-22 months. Blends are made after 12 months so the wine can fully integrate before bottling.
Winemaking
Syrah is such a great varietal in Washington State. From our warm vineyard site, we developed some amazing flavors in 2014. We did some cool things in the vineyard by leafing different sides of our rows. The wine was co-fermented with 5% Viognier to add more floral characteristics to the finished wine. After fermentation the wine was aged in French Oak Barrels. I haven’t been blending the Syrah with Cabernet Sauvignon in the past but I liked the way a little added some depth to the finish. This should age nicely for years to come.
