Description
Tasting Notes
Barbera fruit, cola notes mixed with new oak tones. The flavors start light and build to a round mid palate and long finish. The oak tannins and acidity mix perfectly to give a smooth sensation. Dried fruits, chocolate powder, and oak. Great BBQ wine.

Vineyard Notes
2016 was a warm vintage in Washington State. It was a wet spring which got things growing. The sun was out and shining through Summer, but temperatures never got over 100 degrees, maybe once. There was some smoke in the air but instead of causing problems it helped mitigate some of the heat. Because the season was very warm without extreme highs the grapes ripened without being stressed. The wines from this vintage are showing great promise.
Winemaking
Barbera is a fun varietal to work with at Coyote Canyon. Since we use it for our Rosé, I get to pick this grape twice each vintage. It is fun to see how the timing and treatment create individual wines while also looking at some of the similarities between the two.
The grapes were machine harvested with our state of the art Pellanc picker. The wine waw fermented in two vessels, each with a different yeast. They were then aged in French Oak barrels for 20 months. I continue to enjoy the way a little Merlot blends with this wine. For me it helps round out the wine and adds a little more complexity.
